Southern Chios is the home of mastic (mastiha) trees that grow exclusively on the island. The resin is used in many different products, including food, medicines, dental products, soaps, cosmetics, and varnishes.
The best day trip I took in Albania was to the town of Berat. Old Berat is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It consists of a village built into a medieval castle, and two lower towns, Mangalemi and Gorica, separated by a river. I was only able to visit the castle district due to a small detour involving coffee, but it was well worth it.
Set strikingly on the side of a tall mountain is Krujë, the scene of Albania’s national moment of glory. It was here that the legend of Albanian hero Gjergj Kastrioti, aka Skënderbej, was born.
Every ferry route in Istanbul is fun to ride, but my favorite is the route between Kadıköy and Eminönü. It gives you some of the best vistas of the UNESCO World Heritage listed historic city and its famous landmarks.
My hotel was only a short walk from Old Montréal (Vieux-Montréal), the historic center of the city. I woke up in the morning and headed out to explore.
There are probably as many English schools in Istanbul as there are Starbucks in New York. Depending on whether you work for a private English school, public or private university, high school, or primary school, or in the corporate world, you will have a different experience as a teacher. For first-time teachers or even experienced ones, I hope to shed some light on the Istanbul teaching scene. In this post, we will look at the normal everyday run-of-the-mill English school.
