We stayed in Troy for a few nights for my brother’s wedding. It’s a short drive from Detroit and is mostly known for business and shopping. There are lots of good hotels, several chain restaurants, and a few minor attractions.
With almost 20 Southwest Michigan wineries to choose from, the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail makes for a great day or two of fun and relaxation. Michigan is 5th in the nation in wine grape production and the southwest part of the state has produced some excellent wine.
After an exhausting and eventful night in Windsor, my friends and I woke up at 10:30am, had breakfast in our hotel, crossed the border into Detroit, and went straight to Comerica Park for a game between the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers. The home of the Tigers opened in 2000 and replaced Tiger Stadium. If you’re a baseball fan and you’re in Detroit during the season, Comerica Park is a must-see.
Detroit has some fantastic museums. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the pleasure of visiting more than one of them. I hope to return in the future to see more.
The Walter P. Chrysler Museum was a museum dedicated to cars produced by Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Plymouth, Nash, Hudson, Rambler, DeSoto, Willys-Overland, and AMC. It was named for the founder of the Chrysler Corporation (now Fiat Chrysler Automobiles), Walter Chrysler.
One of my favorite exhibits at The Henry Ford was Rock Stars’ Cars & Guitars. It was a temporary exhibit that ran from May 16 to September 7, 2009, at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Dearborn, Michigan.
This post is very incomplete, as my only experience in downtown Dearborn up until now is a quick drive through and a couple of visits to the Arab American National Museum. I also don’t have any photos other than the outside of the museum.
