Since 2018, I’ve been organizing and leading open-group and private Greek heritage tours of Asia Minor. This year’s trip includes Constantinople, Cappadocia, the footsteps of St. Nicholas, the 7 Churches of Revelation (Ephesus, Laodicea, Pergamon, Philadelphia, Thyateira, Sardis, and Smyrna), and Smyrna’s transition to Izmir.
- Learn about the ancient Greek, Early Christian, Byzantine, and post-Byzantine history of Asia Minor.
- Visit places associated with the rise of Christianity in the region to understand their lasting impact on today’s Orthodox Church.
- Introduce yourself to the complicated relationship between Anatolian Greeks and the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum, Ottoman Empire, and modern Turkish Republic.
- Walk through sites related to the Greek Genocide and Population Exchange of 1923.
- Delve into the similarities and differences of Turkish and Greek cuisine.
- Visit 7 UNESCO World Heritage sites and a further 6 on the tentative list.
