I spent a lot of time with the people I met in the hostel on Ilhabela, bonding after the bank robbery our first night. Ben, a Canadian, and Esmee and Julie, from Holland, went on a jeep tour with me to a nice beach on the Atlantic side of the island.

Jeep Tour

Our host at the hostel was able to book for us in the morning with Ilhabela Jeep Tour. We were picked up at 10:30am and took an hour drive over a rough trail to Castelhanos. The trail runs through a protected rain forest, Ilhabela State Park (Parque Estadual de Ilhabela).

Waterfall of the Cat

Once at the beach, we went on a short 30 minute hike to the gorgeous Waterfall of the Cat (Cachoeira do Gato). We had a quick swim in the freezing cold water and hiked back to Castelhanos.

Castelhanos Beach

At Castelhanos Beach (Praia de Castelhanos), we had about two and a half hours to do whatever we wanted. We all had lunch at a nice fish restaurant on the beach for a reasonable price. Ben and Esmee went surfing, and I laid out in the sun. It was exactly the kind of day we all planned.
