The main attractions in Colonia del Sacramento are in the small historic district. If you have time, there are a few interesting things to see just outside of that part of town. A good place to start is just north of the historic district. There are two piers making up the Puerto Viejo (Old Port) that are both nice to walk down, Puerto de Yates and the old pier. I prefer the old pier.
If you follow the main road into the modern part of town, you’ll pass the Centro Cultural Bastión del Carmen. This was once part of the city’s fortifications but it’s been converted into a theater and gallery. There’s a nice view of it from the old pier.
Along the coast you will find a small beach, Playa Urbana del Rowing. The Feria Artesenal (craft market) is across the street. There are lots of handmade goods and souvenirs to buy there.
Behind the Feria Artesenal is a small park with a stadium next to it. Walk up the hill behind the park and check out the wall of the stadium. It’s a huge mural that goes the entire length of the wall. There are some colorful and interesting images to see.
The streets just outside of the core historic part of town are pleasant but not too interesting.
