If you want the best views of Seattle without paying a ridiculous price to ride up an elevator, head to Kerry Park. Located on an upscale street in the Queen Anne neighborhood, it’s the perfect place to see the skyline and watch the sunset.
Introduction to Kerry Park
Local businessman Albert Sperry Kerry Sr. and his wife donated the land for the park to the city in 1927 “so that all who stop here may enjoy this view”. The Kerrys lived nearby. The park is only 1.26 acres and includes several benches facing the skyline as well as a railing.
The park sits along West Highland Drive between 2nd Avenue West and 3rd Avenue West. The best way to get there is to either walk up from the Lower Queen Anne neighborhood or take a ride in a taxi or Uber. We drove up and had to park a few blocks away because all the parking spots near the park were full.
The Views
From Kerry Park, you can see Downtown Seattle, Elliott Bay, the West Seattle peninsula, and Bainbridge Island. On a clear day, you can see the snow-capped Mount Rainier in the distance. It’s also one of the few places where it’s possible to get a view of both the skyline and the Space Needle.
The view from the park has been featured on several movies and television shows, such as Frasier. Also, it’s a scene you’ll often see used as a backdrop for news segments featuring Seattle.
