Buritaca is a beautiful natural place near Tayrona National Park in Colombia where a pristine river meets the Caribbean sea.
The UTP Botanical Garden (Jardín Botánico UTP) is located in Pereira. It’s operated by the Technological University of Pereira (Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira) and is situated on their campus.
San Andrés is a Caribbean island that belongs to Colombia. It features crystal clear waters, a rich English heritage, and a distinctly Caribbean feel.
Fort De Soto Park is a county park near St. Petersburg, Florida. There are plenty of recreational activities available at the park. It has some great beaches, campsites, nature trails, bike trails, and boat ramps, as well as a historic fort dating back to 1898. It’s also where you can catch a ferry to Egmont Key.
Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Macon, Georgia, is a prehistoric Native American site that preserves over 10,000 years of history. It was first populated during the Ice Age, and mounds were built by the South Appalachian Mississippian culture around 900 AD. Ocmulgee Mounds is open daily until 5pm and charges no admission except for special events.
The Ballard Locks are a fun place to visit while in Seattle. Officially known as the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, they opened in 1917 and are completely free to all vessels. It’s one of the busiest lock systems in the entire country, allowing passage between Puget Sound and Lake Union and Lake Washington via Salmon Bay and the Fremont Cut.
We spent a windy, rainy day exploring (or trying to explore) some of the Pacific beaches at Olympic National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Washington. The beaches are often described as “wild” in many park publications, and for good reason. They’re part of the longest stretch of undeveloped beach in the contiguous United States. This entry covers all beaches we visited except Shi Shi Beach.
If you’re looking for a bit of adventure, Shi Shi Beach can give it to you. This remote Pacific coast beach can be accessed via a two mile trail starting at the Makah Reservation and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listed Olympic National Park.
The Sol Duc Valley in Olympic National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Washington, features a historic resort, hiking trails, and an incredible natural phenomenon. The main feature running through it is the Sol Duc River. We visited the area after checking out Lake Crescent.
