While neighboring Idaho Springs is famous for gold mines, Georgetown, Colorado, sprung up because of its silver mines. Today, this small town nestled in the Rocky Mountains preserves its original Victorian charm and offers plenty of opportunities for shopping, sightseeing, and recreational activities. It makes for a great day trip from the Denver area.
North Platte, Nebraska, may not sound too exciting but it’s got a lot of history, making it a decent place to stop for a day. In this entry, I’ll write about the things I did on my day in North Platte. Visit the town’s official website for more info on what to do or special events taking place.
The Chicago History Museum is located in Old Town on the Near North Side. It’s one of the best museums in the city.
The Gold Coast of Chicago is one of the wealthiest areas in the city. It’s a historic district on the Near North Side comprised of a posh residential area and one of the city’s best entertainment and restaurant zones.
Chesterton, Indiana, is a small town that is also the gateway to the Indiana Dunes National Park and State Park. I went to high school there and of course I hated it, but after 20 years I realized it’s not so bad for a such a small place.
The newest section of Indiana Dunes National Park is the Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk in Portage, Indiana. It opened in October 2008 and is a popular place to spot migrating birds.
The Century of Progress Homes are five homes built for the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair. The homes are located along West Lake Front Drive in Beverly Shores, which is surrounded by Indiana Dunes National Park on all sides.
Dunn’s Bridge County Park sits at the southern border of Porter and Jasper Counties in Northwest Indiana. The park contains a unique and historic bridge with an interesting and mysterious story behind it.
Hebron is a small town southwest of Valparaiso, Indiana. It was an important stagecoach stop and later a railway junction in the 1800s.
