Hebron is a small town southwest of Valparaiso, Indiana. It was an important stagecoach stop and later a railway junction in the 1800s.

Downtown

The small downtown runs for about a block and contains a few historic buildings. They’re filled with shops and restaurants. There’s really not much to it other than that.

Stagecoach Inn

The Stagecoach Inn is the town’s historical museum. It was built in 1849 as an inn for travelers passing through the area, and for hunters and fishermen visiting the Kankakee River. At that time, Hebron was the gateway to the hunting grounds at the Grand Kankakee Marsh. The building is still in its original location downtown. Admission is free and it’s open by appointment only.

Panhandle Depot

The railroad heritage of Hebron can be seen behind the Stagecoach Inn. The Panhandle Depot served as the railroad depot for the Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad. It was originally built around 1863. The building is currently used as a railroad museum and is open by appointment only along with the Stagecoach Inn.
