A five star hotel (by Bolivian standards) isn’t usually a tourist attraction, but Urban Rush Bolivia changes that. The Hotel Presidente in La Paz’s city center has one of the most interesting activities I have ever seen in a city. I didn’t take part, but I enjoyed watching the few people who did, and this activity just adds to the eccentricity of La Paz.
While in Natal, I was very sick and couldn’t do much. On a day I was feeling better, Mike and I decided to do a day trip to the beach towns of Punaú and Maracajaú.
Iguazú National Park features the Argentinian side of Iguazu Falls. It’s just a short drive across the border from Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil. The falls are a UNESCO World Heritage site.
I spent a lot of time with the people I met in the hostel on Ilhabela, bonding after the bank robbery our first night. Ben, a Canadian, and Esmee and Julie, from Holland, went on a jeep tour with me to a nice beach on the Atlantic side of the island.
On June 3, 2014 I was on the Brazilian island of Ilhabela. In the middle of the night, I experienced a real Brazilian bank robbery complete with bombs and guns. I wrote a story about it and was very fortunate to have it edited and dramatized by the one and only Roman Britons. Visit his blog for the original post! This is a true story! Enjoy…
All of the tour companies in Paraty will offer jeep trips to waterfalls located in Serra da Bocaina National Park (Parque Nacional da Serra da Bocaina), a UNESCO World Heritage site. I highly recommend it.
During the Chernobyl tour, we walked past several different residential buildings in Pripyat. Some were several stories high while others stood only a few stories.
The following photos are from Public Pool “Lazurny” (Басейн “Лазурний”), which was located near several residential buildings on Sportivnaya Street in Pripyat. Strangely, the pool was in use until 1998, 12 years after the Chernobyl disaster. It’s considered one of the least contaminated places in Pripyat and was mainly used by liquidators. Liquidators were the military and civil personnel charged with limiting both the immediate and long-term consequences of the disaster.
Middle School #5 in Pripyat was one of the more interesting buildings we visit on the Chernobyl tour. It’s located in a residential area near the stadium, which was home to FC Stroitel Pripyat. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves:
