Introduction to Pueblo Tapao
Founded on January 31, 1978, Pueblo Tapao is the nearest settlement to Parque del Café, one of Colombia’s most visited attractions. While the town itself isn’t a tourist hotspot, it offers plenty of lodging options and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, making it a convenient base for exploring this corner of the Coffee Region.
Where to Stay in Pueblo Tapao
If you’re planning a visit to Parque del Café, Pueblo Tapao makes a great base. Accommodation options are varied, from traditional hotels and vacation centers to charming country homes and cabins.
Hotel Veraneras del Quindío
Hotel Veraneras del Quindío is a cozy spot set in a traditional building in the heart of the village. Full of character, it’s run by warm, hospitable hosts who have been welcoming travelers from around the world since 2004.
Our room was spacious, comfortable, and very quiet at night. The balcony was a lovely bonus. We slept well and enjoyed a solid breakfast in the morning, though the room could have used a bit more lighting in the evenings.
If you have a moment, take some time to check out the hotel’s features. It’s decorated with traditional touches and has a balcony offering fantastic views of the surrounding countryside.
Where to Eat in Pueblo Tapao
The main street is lined with restaurants serving traditional dishes and local favorites, including morcilla (blood sausage), solteritas, empanadas, and arepas filled with cheese.
California Steak
Located in a strip mall on the edge of town, California Steak is a friendly spot serving steaks, burgers, chorizo, and other grilled specialties. I had a perfectly cooked, juicy picanha, while Marisol found her churrasco a bit dry. The chorizo and burgers were both tasty, and prices are reasonable.
