The Golden Gate was built in 1017 by Yaroslav the Wise as one of three main entrances in the Kyiv city walls. It was originally called the Southern Gate, then the Great Gate of Kyiv.
While exploring Kyiv, I walked to the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex. It’s a huge stadium located in the city center.
After admiring the House with Chimaeras, I set out to explore the rest of central Kyiv.
Not too far from Independence Square in Kyiv is the House with Chimaeras. I spent a good 15 minutes examining the animal sculptures attached to it.
I started my third day in Kyiv by taking the metro to Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti), the main square in the city. It’s where the Euromaidan protests began on November 21, 2013.
Volodymyr’s Hill is one of the many forested parks along the Dnieper River in Kyiv. It’s a great place to explore and has some wonderful views.

Miskyi Sad Park is one of the gorgeous forested parks that sit along the Dnieper River in Kyiv. It sits just north of Mariyinskyi Park.
Down the hill to the north of Slavy Park is Askold’s Grave Park, which is one of the many beautiful parks along the Dnieper River in Kyiv.
