The Cana Greek Orthodox Wedding Church is located in Kafr Kanna, Israel. It’s believed to be the site where Jesus performed the miracle of the Wedding at Cana.

Courtyards

The church, which is officially called the Church of St. George, sits near the Franciscan Wedding Church. It’s entered through a beautiful outer courtyard with a fountain and date trees.

Stairs lead from the outer courtyard to an inner courtyard where there’s a shop selling religious items and wine. There’s also a small museum displaying a few archaeological items in glass cases.

The Cana Greek Orthodox Wedding Church was built in the late 19th century. The entrance is approached under a path covered in grapevines. There’s a mosaic of the Wedding at Cana above the doors.

Stone Jugs

The most important items in the church are two ancient stone jugs claimed to have been used by Jesus to turn water into wine. Pilgrims visiting the church have left money, notes, and tamata (votives) on the jugs.

Next Time…

Unfortunately, due to the tight schedule of our pilgrimage group, we were only able to visit the Greek Orthodox church. If I have the chance to visit Kafr Kanna again, I will make sure to visit the Catholic church as well as the Chapel of St. Bartholomew.
