A brief guide on where to stay in Medellín. As far as accommodation, Medellín has several options for every budget, from hostels and budget hotels to business class and luxury hotels.

Patio del Mundo

I can’t start with anywhere other than Patio del Mundo. Hands down, it’s the best place I’ve stayed at in Medellín. It’s located in a quiet part of the Provenza neighborhood of El Poblado. There are several other hotels in the area, but there’s nowhere I’d rather stay or recommend to my guests than Patio del Mundo.

Patio del Mundo

This boutique hotel contains a handful of unique rooms. Each room is inspired by a different city or region of the world and decorated as such.

Our guests with Paisadventure absolutely love this hotel. Everything has been excellent, from the personal service and attention to detail to the incredible sleep quality. Try finding a more comfortable and quiet night’s rest in El Poblado!

The common area comes complete with comfortable couches, books, and a dining room table. It’s only a short walk from some excellent restaurants, but staff is happy to order delivery for you and even set the table for a great dinner in the hotel.

The patio and garden is also a treat. It’s a great place to sit and relax any time of day. A delicious personalized breakfast is served on the patio every morning.

Down a short path through the forest behind the building is a jacuzzi. It makes you feel as if you’re in an oasis in the city.

Where to Stay in El Poblado

The best area for hotels in Medellín is El Poblado. It’s the city’s entertainment district and has the majority of good accommodation.

14 Urban Hotel

Right in the heart of Provenza is 14 Urban Hotel (March 2023). It’s a nice property with some great restaurants within a block or two of the hotel, and there’s a decent rooftop bar. Staff is friendly and helpful, and there’s a decent breakfast available every morning.

My room was small but perfect for my stay and had great air conditioning. The bed was very comfortable and at night it wasn’t as loud as I had feared. I was able to get a decent sleep on a Saturday night, which can be tough in this part of Medellín.

Hotel du Parc

If you want to be close to the action, Hotel du Parc (June 2017) is a good hotel. It’s only two blocks from Parque Lleras yet the rooms were quiet enough to sleep at night (full disclosure: it was in the middle of the week, so maybe the weekends are a bit noisier). The rooms are huge, complete with a kitchen, and have comfortable beds and nice bathrooms. The staff is attentive and helpful and the breakfast buffet is decent.

Hotel Madeiro

Located just a couple blocks from Parque Lleras, Hotel Madeiro (June 2019) is a good option if you want to stay in a quiet area but close to the action. It also has a wonderful staff that’s eager help.

The hotel has comfortable modern rooms with good air conditioning. As I mentioned, it’s quiet at night.

On the top floor, there’s a jacuzzi and spa area. The breakfast room is located opposite, although the breakfast isn’t that great.

Hotel Natura

A good option in Provenza, Hotel Natura (March 2019) has simple but comfortable rooms at reasonable prices.

A decent buffet breakfast is included, and the hotel is just steps from several good restaurants and bars.

The only downside was the staff, who made us wait 30 minutes to check in, then gave us a problem with the hotel tax. In total, checking in wasted nearly an hour of our day. They profusely apologized after realizing their mistake, and were friendly for the rest of our stay.

Hotel Estelar Blue

Estelar Blue (February 2019) is a business class hotel is located in a quiet area a bit further away from the action. The room was what you’d expect from a business hotel. It included a mediocre dinner and breakfast for a decent price.

Ayenda 1224 Pixel House

This guesthouse is a bit out of the way from the city’s attractions, but it was perfect for my short stays with the car (July 2017 and March 2018). Ayenda 1224 Pixel House (formerly Pixel House) is located in a safe and quiet residential neighborhood about a 10 minute drive from Parque Lleras and a few minutes walk to Aguacatala metro station. The room was very functional with a wall of cabinets to store my things, power outlets right next to the bed, a fridge, a small desk, and a decent bathroom.

Hostel Relax 10

I’ve stayed twice at Hostel Relax 10 (August 2014 and December 2015). They offer dorm rooms and private rooms. Staff is very friendly and they make a nice breakfast in the morning. Prices are reasonable, especially when you share a dorm room with friends. The only negative is the noise from the clubs outside and only two rooms have windows, both on the upper floor.

Novelty Suites

When my father visited, we stayed at the Novelty Suites (January 2015). It’s very near a beautiful mall, Centro Comercial Oviedo. The rooms were nice and comfortable. We really enjoyed the helpful and friendly staff.

Hostal Tamarindo Inn

On a visit with Marisol, we stayed at the Hostal Tamarindo Inn, located just a block from Parque El Poblado. We weren’t too impressed. The room was comfortable, but the sink was leaking leaving a puddle of water in the bathroom, wifi didn’t work in the room, and to pay by credit card was a pain because they didn’t have a machine on-site.

Kolor Hotel Boutique (Permanently Closed)

Not quite boutique, Kolor Hotel Boutique (February & March 2019) is a comfortable and relatively quiet hotel in Provenza. Each room takes the name of a color.

It has a friendly staff and comfortable beds, but the decor may turn some people off. Also, the wifi was terrible in my room and I had to go out to the lobby to get a signal.

Sunshine Hostel (Permanently Closed)

Our group in August 2014 had originally planned to stay at Sunshine Hostel, also in El Poblado, but they gave our room away without notifying us. It happened to be during the busiest time of year as well, and the staff was indifferent. We weren’t happy about it. There are much better hostels, anyway.

Where to Stay Elsewhere in Medellín

I have very little experience with hotels outside El Poblado, but here’s where I’ve stayed.

Ibis Budget Itagüí

A good budget option is Ibis Budget Itagüí, although it’s quite far away from anything worth visiting. Thankfully, it’s located only a few minutes walk from the Itagüí metro station. The hotel is clean, quiet, and features small yet functional rooms. I stayed there in December 2019 on a family trip.

Where to Stay near the Medellín International Airport

If you have a layover or an early flight out of Medellín and want to be closer to the airport, I’ve stayed at two budget hotels I can recommend.

Hostal El Hangar

If you need a place to stay near the international airport, Hostal El Hangar is a great option. It’s just 1km from the airport and offers free shuttle service, making it an excellent choice for late night arrivals or if you have an early morning departure. There are private rooms and dorms with a restaurant on site. My room was clean and comfortable, and the staff was able to accommodate me for an after midnight arrival. In addition to the hotel, there’s a restaurant on site and long term parking for the airport.

Hotel Santiago de Arma

Another great option near the international airport is Hotel Santiago de Arma. They also offer a free shuttle and is reasonably priced with a friendly staff.

Rooms are much more comfortable and modern, and there’s a big delicious breakfast included in the rate. There’s an Italian restaurant on site as well as long term parking for the airport right behind the hotel.
