Nairo Quintana, Colombia’s most successful cyclist, was born and raised in the small town of Cómbita. He won the Giro d’Italia in 2014, the Vuelta a España in 2016, and finished second in the 2013 and 2015 Tour de France. Nairo has also won several other major stage races.
Tienda La Villita
Want to learn more about him? Visit Tienda La Villita, his family’s roadside store about 10 minutes from Cómbita! The store features a mural of Nairo as well as two statues of him riding a bike.
Inside, you can buy snacks and coffee or take home a box of local pastries with Nairo’s face on it.
Next to the store, there’s a booth where the cyclist’s mother sells Nairo Quintana souvenirs and memorabilia. She’s a humble woman who’s always smiling and willing to chat with visitors.
Cómbita
It’s not really necessary to stop there, but you can also visit the town of Cómbita to see the huge main plaza and church. It’s a very quiet town and there’s not much to see at all. Cómbita is located in the department of Boyacá, just a short drive north of Tunja.
