White Domes Trail is my favorite trail at Valley of Fire State Park, a National Natural Landmark in Nevada. It combines incredible desert scenery, history, and great viewpoints. White Domes Trail is located at the end of White Domes Road.
White Domes Trail
The 1.25 mile loop trail starts on a sandy path and quickly moves to a steep path down. On the path, you can veer to the left and climb the rocks to a viewpoint with a panoramic look at the park.
Movie Set
Back on the path, at the bottom are the remains of a movie set that has been used in several films, including Star Trek: Generations, The Good Son, and Steven King’s The Stand. The remaining structures are from The Professionals.
Narrows
Next, the trail continues through the Narrows, a wash that passes between a narrow canyon. This is a shady and cooler part of the trail.
Second Mile
The second half of the trail starts after the narrows and takes you past interesting rock formations.
Finally, before the trail loop turns back toward the parking lot, there are spectacular views of the desert. The trail then goes between two large sandstone domes.
