Well, the day has finally arrived. Marisol and were married tonight in Pereira, Colombia. We had a very busy week leading up to our Greek-Colombian wedding.
Arrival
Exactly a week before the wedding, we started greeting friends and family at the airport in Pereira. We had guests fly in from Chicago; Valparaiso, Indiana; Crown Point, Indiana; Lombard, Illinois; Detroit, Michigan; and Columbus, Ohio. My cousin from Philadelphia was supposed to join us but ended up losing her flight due to a snowstorm. She made it all the way to Panama City but wasn’t able to get a connecting flight.
Tour of the Coffee Region
The next afternoon, we piled everyone into a van and took them to another hotel in Armenia and settled in for the day. Over the next few days, we showed my friends and family around the Coffee Region.
Our first day was spent in Salento and the Cocora Valley, where everyone had the chance to enjoy the scenery and do souvenir shopping.
The second day was a fun filled full day at Recuca, learning about coffee and the culture of the region.
On our third day, we visited the Quindío Botanical Garden to learn about the biodiversity of Colombia. The butterfly house was a big hit.
The fourth day saw us travel to Belén de Umbría to visit our home and see the town we live in.
After that, we continued to Marisol’s parents house in Anserma for a huge family get-together.
Friday was a free day. Some went to Filandia and Santa Rosa to visit the termales. Others rested before the big wedding day. Marisol and I ran around finishing up a few details that need to get taken care of.
The Wedding
Finally, on Saturday, December 17, 2016, we tied the knot at the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen) in Pereira. It was a beautiful ceremony in the most beautiful church in the city.
When the ceremony was over, we crossed the street to the Movich Hotel for the reception, which lasted until after 3am.
Party’s Over!
The next morning, we had a family breakfast, relaxed at the hotel, and had a farewell dinner for all my friends and family. On Monday morning, we said goodbye to everyone, and Marisol and I left for our honeymoon in Italy via Madrid on Iberia.
