Casa Rinconcada is an Ancestral Puebloan archaeological site at Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s located on the nine-mile loop road through the park about six miles from the visitor center.
Villages
While most of the other major sites in the park are great houses, Casa Rinconcada is a collection of small villages and an isolated great kiva. They were built around the same time as the great houses.
Great Kiva
The great kiva at Casa Rinconcada is the largest at Chaco Culture. It has a diameter of 64 feet and contained a 39 foot underground passage.
Trail
A ½ mile loop trail takes visitors around the archaeological site past the villages and kiva. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to properly visit the site. Trail guides are available for purchase at the visitor center. For a longer hike, the loop trail connects to the South Mesa Trail, which leads to a great house called Tsin Kletsin.
