Grand Lake is a small town that sits at the western end of Trail Ridge Road just outside of Rocky Mountain National Park. It makes a great base for exploring the national park.
Grand Avenue
The main street in town, Grand Avenue, has plenty of opportunities for food, shopping, and more.
There are several lodges and cabins to stay around Grand Lake, which is Colorado’s largest and deepest natural lake. Water sports and fishing are popular activities on the lake. A reservoir, the Shadow Mountain Lake, is next to the lake.
Lodge
The most famous lodge in town is historic Grand Lake Lodge, perched above town with excellent views of the lake and town. It’s near the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park and was built in 1920.
East Inlet Trail
The East Inlet Trail, part of Rocky Mountain National Park, is located on the east end of the town. The trail goes up into the forest seven miles until it reaches a few alpine lakes. We took the trail about a quarter mile to Adams Falls, a nice little waterfall in the forest.
