Avgonima (Αυγώνυμα) is a tiny scenic village that sits on top of a hill near the west coast of Chios, Greece. It’s filled with attractive stone homes and sits about 16km from Chios Town. It’s great to combine a visit to the abandoned village of Anavatos with a stop in Avgonima.
This sleepy village will only take a few minutes to wander through. You may have the whole place to yourself, and there’s a good chance you won’t even encounter one of the residents!
To Asteri
There are a few tavernas operating in town. My favorite is To Asteri, which provides great views over the Aegean Sea and excellent traditional Greek food. To Asteri is also perfect for watching sunsets thanks to its excellent position.
We shared several delicious plates of food when I visited this taverna with a small group of friends. Among the dishes we tried were the grilled octopus, fried calamari, Greek village salad, and fried eggplant. Service was friendly and the food was excellent. I will definitely make it a point to eat there again in the future.
