We couldn’t visit Salt Lake City without seeing the Great Salt Lake. We decided to make a day trip out to Antelope Island State Park. The park has miles of hiking, camping, and beaches on the lake as well as a historic ranch. There are also plenty of opportunities for birdwatching and spotting wildlife.
US Highway 89 in Wyoming runs through Grand Teton National Park. There are several turnouts along the road and a few points of interest to stop at. We stopped at a few of these spots during our trip down the road from Colter Bay Campground to Jackson. Each turnout gives a unique angle of the mountains but I had bad luck with the weather and could barely see them.
Majestic mountains. Pristine glacial lakes. 230 miles of trails. A couple days in Grand Teton National Park is the perfect complement to any trip to Yellowstone. In fact, it would be a crime to go to Yellowstone and NOT stop in Grand Teton.
Yellowstone National Park is one of our planet’s most fascinating natural areas. The world’s oldest national park, founded on March 1, 1872, is made up of over 2.2 million acres of wonder. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has endless opportunities for recreational activities.
The Loop Road is a 70 mile scenic drive that begins and ends in Lander, Wyoming. We drove a portion of the road one late morning.
On the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park are two small mountain lakes that are worth visiting. Sprague Lake and Bear Lake both have short trails around them and are a great opportunity to spot wildlife. They’re located near the Glacier Basin campground.
The Heron Rookery Trail at Indiana Dunes National Park follows a portion of the Little Calumet River. The main east parking lot is located in Michigan City while the west parking lot is in Chesterton.
Pinhook Bog is quite possibly the most interesting section of Indiana Dunes National Park. It’s got an incredible natural history and outstanding plant biodiversity. Pinhook Bog was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1965 – a year before the park was established.
The Great Marsh Trail at Indiana Dunes National Park gives hikers views of the largest wetland complex in the Lake Michigan watershed. It’s located in the town of Beverly Shores.
Dune Ridge Trail at Indiana Dunes National Park takes hikers through a diverse set of habitats in a short amount of time. It’s located in Beverly Shores, just south of Kemil Beach and the Century of Progress Homes.
