With snow-capped mountains, pristine lakes, magical rain forest, and wild Pacific beaches, Olympic National Park is one of the best. This park in northwest Washington, established in 1938, is a UNESCO World Heritage site with almost a million acres of wilderness waiting to be explored.
One of the popular tours to take in Ladrilleros is to the nearby mangroves and natural swimming pools, part of Uramba Bahía Málaga National Park. The tours run in the afternoons and can be booked at a reasonable price through your accommodation.
Between the months of June and October, people head to Colombia’s Pacific coast to get a glimpse of the humpback whale. After a long migration, the whales raise their calves in the area, making whale watching tours a popular activity. The best place to do this is in the protected waters of Uramba Bahía Málaga National Park.
The small town of Calarcá, just outside of Armenia, hosts the Quindío Botanical Garden (Jardín Botánico del Quindío). It’s one of the best botanical gardens in all of Colombia and a must-see when visiting the UNESCO World Heritage listed Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia.
On the fourth and final day of our Amazonas tour with On Vacation, we crossed the river to the small village of Puerto Alegría in Peru. It’s a farming community populated by speakers of the Cocama language. No passport was necessary and the excursion was included in the package.
The third day of our Amazonas tour with On Vacation began with an excursion to visit a Yagua community. The Yagua are an indigenous tribe who settled in the specific area around the late 1970s. This excursion was included in the package.
On the second day of our tour to Amazonas with On Vacation, we took an excursion to Puerto Nariño and a Ticuna community. The trip started at 9am and wasn’t included in the package (it was a bit pricy). If you’re going on your own, you have to pay an entrance fee to get into Puerto Nariño.
The Lower Burro Mesa Pouroff Trail leads hikers to a pouroff that’s dry most of the year. The trail is located at Big Bend National Park in Texas.
UT-12, a state highway in Utah, is also known as Scenic Byway 12. It runs from Capitol Reef National Park to Bryce Canyon, and partially through Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
Devil’s Garden is one of the trails I had set as a goal to finish on my long day at Arches National Park. With an extremely late start and losing two hours in the afternoon by having to return to Moab, it didn’t quite work out the way I wanted, but we were still able to complete a short part of the trail.
