Girón is a charming whitewashed colonial town just minutes from the bustling city of Bucaramanga.
Once you finish admiring the beautiful plaza, you can explore the rest of Monguí, one of Colombia’s Heritage Towns (Pueblos Patrimonio). The town isn’t very big so it doesn’t take very long to walk through the streets.
One of the fun things about Monguí are the handmade footballs that the town is famous for producing. A good place to learn about this industry is at the Football Museum (Museo del Balón). It’s located on the town plaza of this Colombian Heritage Town (Pueblo Patrimonio) and admission is free.
The plaza of Monguí, one of Colombia’s Heritage Towns (Pueblos Patrimonio), is also one of the most beautiful in the country. It’s a wide open space paved with bricks and surrounded by several colonial buildings.

I thought my search for Colombia’s most beautiful town ended with Jardín. The equally if not more beautiful town of Jericó gives it stiff competition. Jardín wins the plaza competition, but Jericó hands down has better preserved and better constructed traditional homes and buildings.
Jericó has several budget options for hotels. It’s best to go and ask around. Most of the accommodation is within a couple blocks of each other.
The small town of Guaduas, about two hours from Bogotá, was the birthplace of one of Colombia’s revolutionary heroes, Policarpa Salavarrieta. It’s also one of Colombia’s prestigious Heritage Towns (Pueblos Patrimonio), filled with small colonial buildings.
