The city of Forks is the largest settlement near the western side of Olympic National Park. It makes a great base to visit the park. We spent two nights there and found it to be very centrally located.

Shoshone, California, is a small town of about 20 people located near Death Valley National Park. To the north is Death Valley Junction and to the south is Baker.
Boulder City is a planned city created for the workers and families of those who built the Hoover Dam.
Hoover Dam is one of the greatest engineering marvels of modern history. It’s just a short drive from Las Vegas and within the boundaries of Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
