Our tour groups to Cartagena have often decided to spend a day at Rosario del Mar (formerly Gente de Mar), a beach resort on Isla Grande, one of the Rosario Islands. They’ve preferred this option rather than a trip to overcrowded Playa Blanca.
Parque Los Arrieros is an entertaining theme park in Colombia’s UNESCO World Heritage listed coffee country aimed at protecting the Coffee Region’s culture and heritage. It’s located on the road between the towns of Quimbaya and Montenegro. When traveling through the region, you don’t hear much about it and it isn’t well publicized, but it has been around since January 2014.
One of the most important novels in Latin American history, María, is set in a traditional plantation house in the Valle del Cauca department of Colombia. The house is called Hacienda El Paraíso and was owned by the father of the author, Jorge Isaacs. It’s now a Colombian National Monument and museum because of its significance to the novel.
Aviation and model enthusiasts will love the Fénix Air Museum (Museo Aéreo Fénix), an impressive museum appropriately located near the airport that serves Cali, Colombia.
One of the popular tours to take in Ladrilleros is to the nearby mangroves and natural swimming pools, part of Uramba Bahía Málaga National Park. The tours run in the afternoons and can be booked at a reasonable price through your accommodation.
Between the months of June and October, people head to Colombia’s Pacific coast to get a glimpse of the humpback whale. After a long migration, the whales raise their calves in the area, making whale watching tours a popular activity. The best place to do this is in the protected waters of Uramba Bahía Málaga National Park.
Museum Campus is a park on the Near South Side of Chicago that contains three of the city’s best museums, Soldier Field, and the largest convention center in North America, McCormick Place.
Not too far outside Pereira is a great park for both kids and adults. Parque Consotá is a huge recreational area with sports fields, several swimming pools, a spa, nature trails, fishing ponds, paddle boats, a small zoo, restaurants, and a hotel. We took Marisol’s 6 year old nephew, David, to enjoy the park for a day.
Calima Lake was a huge disappointment. Maybe our expectations were too high, but we thought it would be much nicer.
