Colón is a dump, simply put. Once a model city known for its beauty and class, it’s now notorious in Panama for its high crime rate thanks to decades of economic depression.
Panama City has great nightlife for all kinds of tastes and budgets. Whether you’re just looking for a few beers with friends or want to dance all night, you’ll find what you’re looking for. PANACA is an agricultural based theme park in the UNESCO World Heritage listed Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia. It features several different species of domesticated animals and many that are exotic to Colombia.
If you find yourself in Pereira with extra time to kill, head across the bridge to the suburb of Dosquebradas. This city is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listed Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia.
A good place to visit while in Medellín is Pueblito Paisa. It’s a a small replica Antioquian village on top of Nutibara Hill (Cerro Nutibara), a small hill in the middle of the city.
I didn’t know much about bachata music until I met Marisol. When her favorite artist, Romeo Santos, announced a concert in Pereira, she asked me to come with her and her group of friends. In the weeks leading up to the concert, Marisol taught me how to dance bachata. She told me I can’t go to the concert unless I can dance.
Every year for one week, Belén de Umbría celebrates a week of fiestas to commemorate the founding of the town. The fiestas usually take place in November. This year, they were moved a month earlier to October.
With a couple of other teachers (Natalia #1, Natalia #2, and Maryam), I went to a Marc Anthony concert in Pereira. It’s not normally I concert I would go see, but I was sure the atmosphere would be amazing in Colombia.

El Poblado is the 14th commune, or district, in the city of Medellín, Colombia. As the city’s premier entertainment district, most people associate it with the abundance of nightlife and entertainment, but it also contains a few quiet neighborhoods, parks, shopping, and other attractions. It’s where you’ll find many of the city’s best hotels, hostels, bars, nightclubs, and restaurants.
