Peleș Castle (Castelul Peleș) was the summer residence of Romanian King Carol I. It’s located in Sinaia, Romania.
Visiting
Peleș Castle is open to visitors daily except Mondays. Admission is 100 lei for adults, 50 lei for pensioners, 25 lei for children and students, and free for kids under 7 (as of September 2025). Photos are allowed indoors without flash. There’s no admissionfor the grounds of the castle, which is typically closed in November each year for maintenance and cleaning.
I highly recommend taking the time to visit the castle on a day trip from Bucharest or Brașov. It’s about a 20 minute walk from the train station in Sinaia.
The following entries are listed in order of my visit:
Pelișor Castle
Another smaller castle, Pelișor Castle, is also open Wednesday through Sunday. Admission is 30 lei for adults, 7.50 lei for students, 15 lei for pensioners, and free for kids under 7 (as of September 2025). Tours take about 45 minutes. This castle was built near Peleș Castle in 1899 as a summer home for the future King Ferdinand I and his wife, the popular Queen Marie, a granddaughter of the British Queen Victoria and Tsar Alexander II of Russia. In fact, Queen Marie had much to do with the interior design of the castle.
