UT 24 is a Utah state highway that cuts through Capitol Reef National Park. There are a few points of interest along the road within the park.
There’s not much I can say about Torrey. We used this tiny Utah town as a base for visiting Capitol Reef National Park, which is just a few miles to the east. There’s nothing to see in the town itself.
Capitol Reef National Park is one of the five national parks located in Utah. It’s named for the unique sandstone domes that resemble the United States Capitol building in Washington, DC. The park also surrounds a 100 mile long wrinkle in the earth called the Waterpocket Fold, which contains canyons and rock formations.
Natural Bridges National Monument, located in southeast Utah, was the state’s very first national monument. It was established in 1908 by Theodore Roosevelt.
Edge of the Cedars State Park Museum, located in Blanding, Utah, is a museum and Native American archaeological site.
Newspaper Rock State Historic Monument is a rock panel with one of the largest known collections of petroglyphs in the United States. It’s located along UT 211, which is the road leading to the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park. The rock is part of the cliffs along Indian Creek Canyon.
The Slickrock Foot Trail takes you along the top of a slickrock sandstone ridge in Canyonlands National Park in Utah. It’s located in the Needles district near the end of UT 211.
Pothole Point Trail, located in the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park in Utah, is a 0.6 mile trail that takes hikers past “potholes”. After heavy rains, water collects in these natural pools and invertebrates hatch from eggs left inside of them.
Cave Spring Trail was one of my favorite trails in Canyonlands National Park. It’s located in the Needles district and is a relatively easy 0.6 mile loop.
UT 211 is a Utah state highway that leads to the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park. It’s the only paved road through the park and ends in the park as well. There are a few overlooks along the road as well as several trailheads.
