Lajitas is a small unincorporated community nestled between Big Bend Ranch State Park and Big Bend National Park in Texas. Its name translates to “little flat rocks” in Spanish.
We didn’t originally plan to visit Big Bend Ranch State Park, but were impressed by the scenery as we drove through on our way to Big Bend National Park.
Marfa was a fun town to visit. Although our time there was short, we really enjoyed the quirkiness mixed in with the history. I’d love to go back and spend more time there.
Officers’ Row housed US Army officers and their families at Fort Davis National Historic Site in Texas. It sits across the Parade Ground from the Enlisted Men’s Barracks.
The Post Hospital at Fort Davis National Historic Site in Texas cared for ill and injured soldiers. It’s located west of Officers’ Row and is one of the restored buildings open to visitors.

Fort Davis National Historic Site protects a well-preserved 19th century US Army fort in West Texas. It contains over 20 restored buildings and over 100 ruins and foundations.
Van Horn is a small town in West Texas. We stopped for the night after visiting Guadalupe Mountains National Park to the north.
The ruins of the Pinery, a stagecoach station, are located within Guadalupe Mountains National Park in Texas. They sit near the Pine Springs Visitor Center and are surrounded by wonderful natural scenery.
