Fans of the Allman Brothers Band can’t pass up a visit to the Big House Museum in Macon, Georgia. Members of the band, their friends and families, and roadies lived in the house from January 1970 to 1973. The house is open Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 6pm. Adult admission is US$15.
Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Macon, Georgia, is a prehistoric Native American site that preserves over 10,000 years of history. It was first populated during the Ice Age, and mounds were built by the South Appalachian Mississippian culture around 900 AD. Ocmulgee Mounds is open daily until 5pm and charges no admission except for special events.
As soon as we arrived in Macon, Marisol and I decided to take a walk around downtown. We found it to be a pleasant and friendly place, but a bit run down in parts. It seemed like a whole section of it had been recently renovated while other sections were a work in progress.
