A brief guide on where to eat in Kadıköy, a neighborhood and district with some excellent choices for food and drinks. Most of my experience is in Kadıköy Çarşı and Moda, but there are also decent places in Caddebostan and Suadiye along Bağdat Avenue (Bağdat Caddesi).
Bağdat Avenue (Bağdat Caddesi) is one of the most important streets in not only the Kadıköy district of Istanbul, but the entire Asian side. It runs from east to west from Maltepe to Kadıköy for about 14 kilometers (8.7 miles).
Tarlabaşı is a neighborhood in Istanbul west of Istiklal Street. It’s the most diverse area in the city as well as a notorious slum.
Elmadağ is a small neighborhood in the district of Şişli, Istanbul, Turkey. It sits very near to Taksim Square and the hotel zone of Talimhane. There’s not much to see in Elmadağ unless you’re into architecture.
Şirince is a quaint little town a short drive east of Selçuk. Although it’s become quite touristy, it still maintains an air of authenticity.
The House of the Virgin Mary (Meryem Ana Evi) is a pilgrimage site on Mount Koressos in Turkey. It’s near the town of Selçuk and the ancient city of Ephesus, and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage listing for Ephesus .
The Basilica of St. John (St. Jean Bazilikası) was a massive Byzantine church that’s now in ruins. It’s located in the town of Selçuk, Turkey, just a few kilometers from Ephesus. The archaeological site also contains Ayasuluk Castle and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage listing for Ephesus.
The Tomb of Ahmed I (I. Ahmed Türbesi) sits off the Hippodrome and near the Blue Mosque in the UNESCO World Heritage listed Sultanahmet area of Istanbul.
Tomtom is an area just off Istiklal Street in Istanbul, Turkey. It’s worth taking a short detour to explore the historic landmarks.
