After purchasing our tickets to the Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale) in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Venice, Italy, we walked through the Opera Museum (Museo dell’Opera) wing of the building. In the past, the Opera was a technical office responsible for the maintenance of the building. It’s located on the southwest corner of the ground floor.
The exterior of the Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale) in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Venice, Italy, has two main façades. One faces the Piazzetta di San Marco section of Piazza San Marco while another faces the lagoon. A third façade faces a canal, Rio di Palazzo, which is crossed by the Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri).
On the north side of Piazza San Marco in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Venice is the Clock Tower (Torre dell’Orologio). It’s located just to the right of the Old Procuratie (Procuratie Vecchie) and to the left of Saint Mark’s Basilica. The tower was completed in 1499 but the original appearance has changed over the years.

The Giudecca Canal (Canale della Giudecca) is one of the major canals flowing through the UNESCO World Heritage city of Venice, Italy. It splits the Dorsoduro district in half, dividing Dorsoduro from the island of Giudecca.
The Grand Canal (Canal Grande) is the main artery through the UNESCO World Heritage city of Venice, Italy. It’s 3.8 kilometers long and makes a reverse “S” shape through all six districts of the city. The canal has an average depth of five meters and 30 to 90 meters wide.
On our honeymoon to Italy, we were lucky enough to spend an amazing New Year’s Eve in Venice. We decided to celebrate at Piazza San Marco in the UNESCO World Heritage city.

San Polo is the smallest of six districts (sestieri) of Venice, Italy. We only spent a small amount of time there during our stay in the UNESCO World Heritage city.
