One of the main reasons we visited Verona was to do a wine tour of the Valpolicella region. The region is located east of Lake Garda and north of Verona.
Castelvecchio is a castle in the city of Verona, Italy. It was built by the Scaligeri dynasty that ruled the city from 1308-1387 and now houses a museum. It’s included in the UNESCO World Heritage listing for the city of Verona. We walked through the castle before getting picked up across the street for our Valpolicella wine tour.
Verona has a good selection of restaurants to choose from. We had some delicious meals there. The only problem is that it’s a very touristy city which means there are restaurants geared towards tourists. This means higher prices and lower quality food.
Verona is synonymous with Romeo and Juliet, and this northern Italian city is a great getaway for both romantics and history lovers. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Verona is rich in Roman ruins as well as buildings from the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
Lower Town (Città Bassa) is the more modern part of the Italian city of Bergamo. It’s not as interesting as Upper Town (Città Alta) but it still has some good attractions, especially for art lovers.
After exploring Upper Town (Città Alta) in Bergamo, we decided to head up to San Vigilio, which is a hill above the city. At the top are fantastic views of Bergamo as well as a castle.

The Palazzo del Podestà is an important Medieval building in Bergamo. It’s located on Piazza Vecchia, a historic square in the Upper Town (Città Alta) section of the city, and can also be seen from Piazza del Duomo.

The Bergamo Cathedral (Cattedrale di Bergamo), also known as the Duomo of Bergamo (Duomo di Bergamo) and the Cathedral of Saint Alexander (Cattedrale di Sant’Alessandro), is the seat of the Bishop of Bergamo.
