Climbing Mount Sinai is one of the most incredible experiences when visiting the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt. It’s holy to Christians, Muslims, and Jews, and is a popular destination for tourists. The mountain is 2,285 meters (7,497 feet) high and located within the UNESCO World Heritage listed Saint Catherine Area.
The Taba Border Crossing connects Israel with Egypt at the Sinai Peninsula. It’s the only land border between the two countries that handles tourists.
After the drama with Ana’s passport at the Egyptian Museum, the tour group headed to the Coptic Quarter of Old Cairo, part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing for Historic Cairo.
After an uncomfortable overnight bus ride from Hurghada, we arrived back at the Oasis Hotel in Cairo, the first hotel on the tour, at around 7am. I went straight to my room and fell asleep for a few hours before our tour of UNESCO World Heritage listed Historic Cairo. The group met in the lobby at 9am and were gathered together by Bishoy, the same guide who took me to Dahshur and Memphis.
I hated Hurghada. Everything about it. The resort, the town, the food. Everything.
After some free time in Luxor, the next stop on the tour was the Karnak Temple, part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing for Luxor.
Following our visit to the West Bank of the Nile, the tour group arrived in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Luxor. Luxor was the ancient city of Thebes (Θῆβαι).
Our group arrived in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Luxor late in the afternoon after two days of cruising the Nile. After we docked, we were treated to a gorgeous sunset over the Nile.
After cruising along the Nile from Kom Ombo, the ship docked in the very early morning hours at Edfu. We got started at 6am by taking a horse-drawn carriage through the city to the Temple of Edfu, where we were attacked by hordes of vendors.
As we cruised along the Nile, our first stop before after setting off from Aswan was Kom Ombo. We reached the dock early in the evening. By the time we got to the temple, it was dark, but that made the visit much more interesting for me.
