My Experience with MegaPass in Istanbul
I had the opportunity to try out MegaPass for myself during a trip to Istanbul. We selected the Istanbul Premium Pass, which is good for 7 days and includes:
- A guided tour of the Blue Mosque
- A Bosphorus cruise
- A public transportation card loaded with 5 rides
- A complimentary audio guide for all the attractions
We also got to choose 4 tickets to the following top attractions:
- Hagia Sophia
- Topkapi Palace and Harem
- Basilica Cistern
- Dolmabahçe Palace and Harem
- A walking tour of the Asian side
- Hop-on hop-off bus ticket for a day
- A Turkish bath experience
- A dervish ceremony
- A dinner cruise on the Bosphorus
- A sunset yacht cruise on the Bosphorus
- A pub crawl
After signing up for our MegaPass, we chose our attractions and the times we wanted to visit them. Within a short time, all our tickets were sent via WhatsApp with clear instructions and QR codes to scan at each one.
How did it go?
With the Bosphorus cruise, Hagia Sophia, and Basilica Cistern, we were able to skip the long lines and walk right up to the turnstiles. At each place, an attendant scanned our QR code right off the phone and we were on our way to enjoy the attractions.
For the sunset Bosphorus cruise, we received clear directions to a designated meeting point where a company representative walked us to the boat. From there, we enjoyed a great conversation and more Bosphorus scenery with snacks and drinks. A guide gave a description of each point of interest along the way.
It was a similar experience for our Blue Mosque tour, where we checked in at a designated point and met our guide. She handed out headphones and gave us a detailed history of the mosque as we waited in line to enter. Once inside, she pointed out all the incredible architectural and artistic details of the building and took time to patiently answer everyone’s questions.
Our final experience was a Turkish bath at the historic Çemberlitaş Hamam. We had a reservation for a certain time but showed up early since we were in the neighborhood. The friendly attendants said it wasn’t a problem and we were able to get in right away. We were even given the option to upgrade to a higher service level by paying the difference in cost. All three of us enjoyed the experience.
Our thoughts on the MegaPass experience
First of all, the 24/7 communication was a great experience from the start. Any questions we had were answered promptly, and we knew it would be a great start to our stay in Istanbul.
The ticketing system is very easy and straightforward. We had no issues getting into any of the places we chose by just scanning the QR codes. With the extremely long lines at some of the attractions we chose, it was quick, easy, and a major time saver!
As far as the MegaPass staff, everyone is helpful and friendly throughout the experience, from customer support to the on-site guides. I have to give a special thanks to Buse, our guide at the Blue Mosque. She’s a wonderful knowledgable guide, both humorous and friendly, and she did a fantastic job overall. She’s one of the best local guides I’ve had in many years of living and traveling to Istanbul.
Overall, MegaPass provides great value, convenience, and the ease of getting around cities that can be overwhelming to newcomers. If you’re looking for the perfect way to explore a city like Istanbul, don’t hesitate buying a MegaPass!
