Troy is a city near Detroit, Michigan. It’s mostly known for business and shopping. There are lots of good hotels, and several chain restaurants, but not much to see.
Introduction to Troy, Michigan
The area around Troy was first settled in 1819. Later in the spring of 1821, Johnson Niles (1794-1872) of central New York purchased 160 acres. His land became known as Troy Corners, named after Troy, New York. Troy Township was founded in 1827, and it was officially incorporated as a city in 1955. Today, Troy is a northern suburb of Detroit.
We stayed in Troy for a few nights for my brother’s wedding. As I mentioned, there’s not much to see. Next time I’m in town, I’ll try to get to Troy Historic Village. That’s pretty much the only attraction.
Where to Stay in Troy, Michigan
You won’t have trouble finding accommodation in town.
Detroit Marriott Troy
We stayed at the Detroit Marriott Troy. It’s not a place I would usually stay but it was the hotel for the wedding guests. It’s a typical Marriott. I can’t say much than that.
Where to Eat in Troy, Michigan
You’ll find a lot of chain restaurants in town but there are a handful of good locally-owned places to try as well.
Cantoro Trattoria
Our first dinner was at Cantoro Trattoria, a local Italian restaurant where the rehearsal dinner was held. Dinner was family-style so we weren’t able to choose our own meals, but both the pasta and beef dishes were excellent. I don’t have any pictures from that night.
Seasons 52
We had another dinner at Seasons 52, which is an upscale national chain. The food was decent but not incredible. I started with the lobster bisque, which wasn’t as good as I had hoped, and had the scallops as my main course. Marisol had salmon. We both enjoyed the mains.
St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church
My brother got married at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. This beautiful church opened in 1994, but the parish was originally founded in 1936 in Detroit.
