Other than heavy hitters Caesar’s Palace and the Venetian, there are a few other resorts worth checking out on the section of the Las Vegas Strip between Flamingo Road and Sands Avenue.

The Mirage

North of Caesar’s Palace and across from the Venetian is the Mirage. This Polynesian themed resort, which opened in 1989, features a volcano that erupts nightly. There are gardens with palm trees and waterfalls lining the path to the entrance.

The atrium of the hotel is full of palm trees and exotic plants to make visitors feel like they’re in a rain forest. A huge 20,000 gallon aquarium behind the front desk is another feature to look out for.

Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat was a major attraction at the Mirage. Visitors were able to see white tigers, white lions, and dolphins. It permanently closed its doors at the end of 2022. A monument to Siegfried and Roy, who performed at the Mirage, sits on Las Vegas Boulevard in front of the hotel.

Treasure Island

North of the Mirage is Treasure Island, which we didn’t get a chance to visit. It was once a pirate-themed resort that featured a pirate battle out front.

South of the Venetian

Directly south of the Venetian is Casino Royale, a small casino catering to low rollers, and Harrah’s, which has a Mardi Gras theme. Next door, The Linq features the High Roller, the world’s tallest observation wheel.

The Flamingo

Continuing south is the Flamingo. This historic casino, opened by Bugsy Siegel in 1946, was the third resort to open on the Las Vegas Strip and is the oldest resort still operating there. It has a Miami theme to it, although nothing is left of the original property.

The Flamingo has a wildlife habitat featuring Chilean flamingos, exotic birds, and fish. It’s open daily and is free of charge.
