Marqués de Puntalarga is a wine that’s produced in the village of Puntalarga, near the towns of Nobsa and Tibasosa in Boyacá, Colombia.
Viñedo Loma de Puntalarga
The vineyard, Viñedo Loma de Puntalarga, has existed since 1982. The first vines, Riesling and Pinot Noir imported from Germany, were planted in 1984. Since then, the vineyard has been working on improving their wine year after year.
Free tours are available daily from 9am to 8pm. They last 20 minutes, are only in Spanish, and include a tasting.
The guide gave us a short history of the vineyard, why the owner chose to produce wine in Puntalarga, and about the wines they produce. We then walked into the tasting room for a sample of their Riesling. It was actually decent but not out of this world. It’s not nearly as good as what’s produced near Villa de Leyva but it has potential.
After the tour, we visited the beautiful terrace which has excellent views of the area. Under the terrace is a cellar and small banquet room.
El Candil
Across the street from the entrance to the vineyard is a Mediterranean restaurant, El Candil. It’s run by an award-winning Spanish chef. The restaurant is open Thursday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm.
We started with French onion soup and tomato soup and each had seafood risotto as the main course. The food was excellent and the service was good. The price was high for Colombia but reasonable for the quality of the meal. We would definitely eat there again.
