Iza is a small town in Boyacá, Colombia, known for its amazing desserts. We stopped to give some of them a try on our way from Lake Tota to Sogamoso.

Plaza of Desserts

A small area a few steps from the plaza, the Plaza of Desserts (Plazoleta de Postres), is set aside for locals to sell their desserts. We were there on a weekday so there was only one table open. The woman who served us told us every single table is full on weekends and people come from all around Colombia to try them.

We were able to get a few portions of different desserts, and each one was amazing. They were made with fruits, Oreo cookies, chocolate, and several other delicious things. I wish we could have substituted our dinner to try more desserts!

Plaza

Back in the center of Iza, which was founded on January 2, 1554, we wandered through the beautiful plaza. It’s a pleasant place to be, with benches for visitor to sit under tall trees.

The plaza is surrounded by colonial buildings and features a church and some local art.
