The Rialto Market is in the district (sestiere) of San Polo, just over the Rialto Bridge. It has been the main market of the UNESCO World Heritage city of Venice, Italy, since 1097.

Campo della Pescaria

We visited the Campo della Pescaria section of the market, first passing through the area where vendors sold fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

Fish Market

Next came my favorite part of Rialto Market, the fish market. It’s held in under two different structures. We went through the building right on the Grand Canal first, watching fishmongers sell the catch of the day to local Venetians.

The building just behind it is labeled “Mercato del Pesce al Minuto”. It’s a bit longer and also has several fish stalls, but most of them had cleaned up for the day by the time we arrived.

We ended up passing by a few more fishmongers on the street along the Mercato del Pesce al Minuto to see more mouth-watering sea creatures.

Scenery

Finally, we took in the beautiful scenery on the Grand Canal from just outside the market.
