About five miles west of Tuba City, Arizona, in Navajo Nation, it’s possible to visit dinosaur tracks from the Lower Jurassic period.
The Site
The turn to the site is marked with a homemade sign. A row of vendors selling local jewelry and crafts is located at the site, and there are a couple of locals on hand to provide tours and details on what you’re looking at. Admission is free but tips are appreciated.
The Tour
Our guide did a great job taking us through the site and showing us some interesting dinosaur tracks. He pointed out dinosaur eggs and what looked to be a fossilized nail.
Highlights included a huge bone coming out of the ground as well as a gigantic footprint from a Tyrannosaurus Rex, which is one of the most well-known dinosaurs. T-Rex lived in what is now the western North America in the Cretaceous Period, about 68 million years ago.
One of the funny surprises on the tour was that we even got to see fossilized dinosaur poop! The tour took about 15 minutes in all.
