Pothole Point Trail, located in the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park in Utah, is a 0.6 mile trail that takes hikers past “potholes”. After heavy rains, water collects in these natural pools and invertebrates hatch from eggs left inside of them.

Potholes

Unfortunately for us, all of the potholes were completely dry during our visit. I’m sure it’s an amazing sight when you can actually see all the little creatures swimming around in the potholes.

The only interesting life forms we saw along the trail was a collection of cacti.

There were, however, some phenomenal views of the park. In the distance, I was able to spot the pinnacles that give the Needles district its name.

I was also able to see the Island in the Sky district to the north. Junction Butte, at the end of Grand View Point Trail, was clearly visible.
