It might be a great base to visit Arches and Canyonlands, but there’s not much going on in Moab itself. Aside from plenty of lodging, restaurants, and tour companies, the town is fairly quiet.

Main Street

Most of the action in town is along Main Street, which runs from north to south. You’ll find some decent restaurants, shops, tour companies, and art galleries.

Moab Museum

One place to visit, however, is the Moab Museum, which is located just a block off Main Street on Center Street. Admission is US$10 for adults and US$8 for seniors over 62, students, and children (as of September 2024). Kids under 7 are admitted free of charge. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 5pm.

Inside the museum, there are exhibits on the geology, paleontology, and archaeology of the region. Among highlights are displays on Native Americans who lived in the region and an ankylosaurus skeleton.

Other exhibits cover the uranium mining boom that hit the town in the 1950s and movies filmed in the area. Another section covers the pioneers who first settled the region and the town’s history. Overall, the museum does a good job telling the town’s story and is worth a good look around.
