Salt Valley Overlook

The first stop on Arches Scenic Drive after Delicate Arch Road is the Salt Valley Overlook, where there are sweeping views of the Salt Valley and the Windows Section, one of the most popular areas at Arches National Park.

Fiery Furnace

Next is the Fiery Furnace, which is described as “a natural labyrinth of narrow passages between towering sandstone walls”. A viewpoint allows visitors to see the formations from afar, but it’s possible to enter the area to get a closer look.

A closer look

There are no trails in the Fiery Furnace. A permit must be obtained before entering which can be done at the visitor center. Anyone entering the area without a ranger is required to watch a short orientation video before purchasing the permit. Permits can sell out quickly in the high season.

An even closer look

For your safety, a strenuous ranger guided hike is the recommended way to see it. They last about three hours and are given daily in the high season. The tours sell out fast but you can book online up to six months in advance.

A view into the distance

From the Fiery Furnace Viewpoint, it’s also possible to spot the Windows Section.
