When I was driving into Nisswa, Minnesota, I passed by beautiful lakes and forests. The clouds to the north appeared in the distance like tall snow-capped mountains.

At first glance, the town seemed the perfect place for anyone interested in outdoor recreation, and it didn’t disappoint. There are opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, biking, golf, and much more. The area doesn’t lose its appeal in winter, with ice fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, and other winter sports. Visit the official Nisswa Chamber of Commerce website for more info on those activities.

Downtown

The tiny downtown also has a few interesting things to keep you busy. There are a few shops selling things such as antiques, clothing, and candy. There’s also the Pioneer Village, an open air museum showcasing life in 19th century Nisswa.

Across the street from the Pioneer Village is an authentic train caboose used by Burlington Northern.

A freight room and the original Nisswa train depot is next to the caboose. Both the caboose and depot are free of charge.
