The absolute best thing we did in Ibagué was visit the San Jorge Botanical Garden (Jardín Botánico San Jorge). It’s an impeccably maintained and incredibly beautiful botanical garden with three trails.

Visiting Info

Allow between one and three hours per visit, depending on which trails you decide to do. It’s well worth the time spent. Admission is COP$15,000 per person (as of November 2023) and it’s open daily from 8am to 4pm. The garden is pretty far from the city center, so a taxi is necessary if you don’t have your own transportation. The person at the guardhouse can call you a taxi when you finish.

The Garden

The botanical garden is a great escape from the concrete and chaos of Ibagué. It’s located just far enough to get away from it all yet close enough to not have to travel very far to enjoy a beautiful natural place. As I mentioned earlier, there are three trails in the garden. Highlights include several different species of flowers and plants as well as a small pond filled with turtles.

There are lookouts at the end of each trail with views of the city.
