Burgas doesn’t have many intriguing sights in the city center, but what it lacks in attractions it makes up for with charm.
Kaliakra is a narrow cape with stunning views of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. It’s a nature reserve and archaeological site with steep cliffs plunging 70m down to the sea.
Kavarna (Каварна) is a small Black Sea resort town in northeastern Bulgaria. Although I didn’t make it as far as the beach, I stopped and took a quick look at the town on my way to visit nearby Cape Kaliakra.
The Varna Ethnographic Museum is one of the biggest and best in all of Bulgaria. It’s well worth a visit. The museum is located in a beautiful Bulgarian National Revival house built around 1860.
The oldest part of Varna is the Greek quarter, where you’ll find the most historic parts of the city. Varna has had a Greek population since antiquity, when the city was known as Odessos, a mixed Greek and Thracian city that was later annexed by the Romans.
The city center of Varna is full of beautiful architecture along pedestrianized streets. It’s easy to walk this part of a city in a loop.
I started my exploration of Shumen on Tsar Osvoboditel Street (ulitsa Tsar Osvoboditel). It’s not the main street through town but there were a handful of historic homes along it, some that double as museums.
The beautiful city of Ruse, Bulgaria, sits on the banks of the Danube River. There are some interesting homes and museums near the river as well as a riverwalk.
