After admiring the House with Chimaeras, I set out to explore the rest of central Kyiv.
Mariyinskyi Park is one of the gorgeous forested parks that sit along the Dnieper River in Kyiv.
Slavy Park (Park of Eternal Glory) is one of the many parks along the Dnieper River in Kyiv. The best way to get to Slavy Park is to stop at the Arsenalna metro station.
After visiting Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, I walked to the Motherland Monument and the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War Memorial Complex (quite a mouthful!).
The Chernobyl Museum is a must-see for visitors in Kyiv, especially for anyone planning on touring Chernobyl. It’s located in the Podil district.
The most beautiful street in Kyiv without a doubt is Andrew’s Descent (Andriyivskyy Uzviz). It winds down a hill to the Podil district, past historic buildings, museums, artists and art vendors, souvenir stalls, and a few touristy restaurants.
St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery is located above Volodymyr’s Hill overlooking the Podil district in Kyiv. To reach the monastery, I took a ride up the historic Kyiv Funicular from the Podil district.
After an uncomfortable overnight bus ride from Hurghada, we arrived back at the Oasis Hotel in Cairo, the first hotel on the tour, at around 7am. I went straight to my room and fell asleep for a few hours before our tour of UNESCO World Heritage listed Historic Cairo. The group met in the lobby at 9am and were gathered together by Bishoy, the same guide who took me to Dahshur and Memphis.
As we cruised along the Nile, our first stop before after setting off from Aswan was Kom Ombo. We reached the dock early in the evening. By the time we got to the temple, it was dark, but that made the visit much more interesting for me.
Alexandria. I like saying it. Probably because it’s a mysterious city I’ve heard so much about in history class, reading history books, and because I’m Greek. It’s a great city near and dear to the hearts of Greeks, with several songs and poems written about it. A city founded by Alexander the Great and from where Cleopatra seduced the Rome. And just like Constantinople (now Istanbul) and Smyrna (now Izmir), many lament having to leave it behind. For these reasons, I had to pay a visit.
