Chernobyl Exclusion Zone

Chernobyl was the scene of the world’s worst nuclear disaster. Access to an area of about 2,600 km² is restricted due to high radioactive contamination levels, although a small handful of people have been granted permission to live within the zone.

I was able to visit Chernobyl on a day tour booked six months in advance through Solo East Travel. Prices start at US$71 per person for group tours (as of May 2023), with two-day and three-day group tours also available. Others opt for private tours that let you see more of the Exclusion Zone and the city of Pripyat, but they can get very expensive.
