Christkindlmarket is one of the most popular holiday events in Chicago. Held annually at Daley Plaza, it was inspired by traditional German Christmas markets and attracts vendors from all over the world. It typically runs daily from mid-November to December 24.
Many of the market’s vendors offer traditional Christmas crafts and ornaments. One of the most popular is Frank’s, which brings hundreds of types of handmade glass ornaments from Germany.
Other vendors sell German steins, winter clothing, and food. You can find German bratwurst, sauerkraut, cheeses, roasted nuts, apple cider, hot chocolate, and more. Just be aware that some vendors only accept cash, and it can get expensive.
When to Visit
I’ve visited Christkindlmarket on a few different years but have tried to avoid weekends when the market is completely packed. On weekdays, it’s much less crowded.
